Someone recently commented, “ . . . if my goal is protecting someone who is in danger of being hurt, then I might be very aggressive against those who pose a threat to those I love.”
Leaving alone the serious questions that arise when a Christian considers the possibility of violent acts (whether in self-defense, in war, or defense of someone or something else), this comment resonated with me for another reason. . . .
I think that, at times, I am at least mildly (or more than mildly) aggressive toward spiritual forces that pose threats to those I love. These threats are every bit as real, and their potential effects more lasting, as their physical counterparts.
I hope and trust that these aggressions — emanating from spiritual concerns — are both warranted and affirmed by God and scripture.
