This sad-but-true news from Leroy Garrett:
It is strange how some things can be both pathetic and comical. Stan Paher, the publisher of my What Must the Church of Christ Do to be Saved, sent a dozen copies of the book to the bookstore at Florida College, as he has done with various other titles through the years. They returned the books, refusing to display them as they do books by authors from numerous denominations, including Roman Catholics. But no book by Leroy Garrett, especially one with such a title. I saw it as amusing, and I thought, if the students only knew. I can just hear an enterprising student asking, “Those books you returned and refused to let us see, do you know where I could get a copy?” BTW, Florida College is associated with the non-institutional Churches of Christ, to which the Duchess belongs, whom I wrote about in my last News and Notes. She must have momentarily forgotten –at 92! –that I was the bad guy, and at last withdrew her gracious invitation for me to visit her. Yes, even pathos can have an amusing dimension.
